for 2009
Mirrool
Centenary
An Armed
Services theme
will be
a feature
of the
Mirrool
Centenary which
will be
held over the
Anzac Weekend,
Sat & Sun
25th & 26th April
in
2009, just
twelve months
away.
After much
discussion over
the past
few months,
the 2009
Anzac Weekend
was chosen,
and plans
are well
under way
for a
big celebration
weekend
for the small
village of
Mirrool.
A well
attended
meeting in
Mirrool
elected Noel
(Buster) Fairman
as
Centenary President,
Scott Noack
is the
Secretary
while Brett
Prentice is
the Centenary
Treasurer.
Cr Liz
McGlynn , a
Bland Shire
Councillor, has
been attending
meetings to
lend her
support, and
to see
what can be
done to
help from
the Bland
Shire.
Nigel Judd
and Robert
Bennett from
the Ariah
Park Centenary
Committee
attended and
have lent
the support
from the
Ariah Park
Community.
Eric Robinson
has offered
to organise
the Street
Procession with
the help
of Robert
Bennett and a
small Committee.
Because it
is Anzac
Day, they
are having
trouble securing
a Marching
Band to
lead the
Parade. If
anyone can
help, contact
Eric or
Buster.
Renee Noack
is organising
the Memorabilia
Display, and
already dozens
of old
photos are
coming in
to be
copied.
Nigel Judd,
who recently
compiled the
Ariah Park
Centenary
History Book,
“Wowsers,
Bowsers, and Peppercorn
Trees” has
offered to
help compile
a
collection of
history on
Mirrool and
District. A
number of
locals have
taken on the
task of
researching
different aspects
of Mirrool’s
history.
Closing date
for submissions
will be
September 1.
